Inspired by the same pioneering spirit that drove legendary collaborations between the likes of Bowie and Lou Reed, Van Dyke Parks and Brian Wilson, or even Duchamp and John Cage; we have invited select like-minded artist to join us.
Not too long ago — music was completely constrained to its format (i.e. vinyl, cassette, CD), which ultimately dictated that artists release music as an album. Now, digital has irrevocably shifting the way we listen to and experience music; allowing us to access continuous playlists of songs from various artists.
The idea is simple – the boundaries are already broken, so why not attempt a hybrid listening experience closer to that of a playlist but still maintaining the essential foundation of the album? This is the premise of the Experimental Playlist.
Whether a group of musicians form together as a band or a single artist responds to the energy of an audience, the creation of music is collaborative by its very nature. If this collective interaction is innate to the process — why then do most artists and musicians go lifetimes only creating with a very small group of other individuals ? Why do we self impose these limitations?
This simple question — which lead to a spontaneous experiment at our LA based studio during the sessions for Ken Stringfellow’s [Posies, REM, Big Star] recent release, has now exploded into the experimental collaboration including exceptional select artists from around the globe.
